There has been considerable technical development in thin films in recent years, and many new applications for them have appeared in today’s marketplaces. These new films are more challenging to process accurately. Yet we realized that there wasn’t a machine on the market specifically designed to address this quickly growing need; competitors have taken a standard inspection slitter-rewinder and tried to modify it to process thin film. That approach typically doesn’t work very well, since there are thin film web characteristics that really ought to be taken into account from the start when designing a thin film processing machine. In fact, there are certain things you just cannot do to films with a standard slitter rewinder. You really do need a machine specifically designed for film.
